23. The House of the Devil

23. The House of the Devil (2009). If you love 80s-inspired Satanic cult paranoia (and who doesn’t?), you’ll really enjoy this take on the babysitter-in-peril concept. It’s one of the best horror films of the past decade, rising above nostalgia to become something greater than the sum of its parts. It’s a relatively tame movie (in terms of violence), but what it lacks in shock it makes up for with suspense and a growing sense of GET OUT OF THERE, LADY! Ti West, please get away from found footage Limbo and get back to what you do best: atmospheric, beat-perfect, character-driven supernatural horror movies.
