10. Nosferatu (1922). Every shot is brilliantly composed, every scene is filled with mood and menace, and Max Schreck’s vampire remains, almost 100 years later, a creature pulled directly from your worst nightmares. Horror films still draw inspiration from director Murnau’s style and technique. At least, the good ones do. My wife and I saw this in the theater a couple of years ago, and the film was accompanied by live horror-synth music. The packed house (of all ages) was enthralled the whole time.
